L'Enfant Sauvage a repris sa place devant la mairie
Après des mois de travaux, la nouvelle mairie de Saint Sernin Sur Rance a fait peau neuve, et la statue de l'Enfant Sauvage a repris sa place devant la mairie, la sculpture protège le village depuis 1985, posant l'éternelle question de l'inné et de l'acquis pour l'humanité.

Un enfant nu, trouvé dans les bois, à la fin du XVIIIe siècle, dans le village de Saint Sernin sur Rance (Aveyron) est représenté à quatre pattes, appuyé sur un coude, symbolisant la question de l'inné et de l'acquis chez les humains, à une époque où la psychanalyse n'était pas encore née... Au sortir de la révolution française, les gens ont espéré que cet enfant allait parler, et raconter ce qu'il avait vécu et ce qu'il ressentait. Recueilli par le docteur Itard, il n'a jamais acquis le langage .
J'ai choisi le basalte des Monts de Lacaune, proches de Saint Sernin. Matériau pourtant très peu utilisé en sculpture, mais qui exprime bien le caractère de l 'Enfant Sauvage à la fois solide et fragile.
Taillé dans une colonne de basalte de 4 tonnes, le bloc de pierre extrait pesait 1700 kilos et l'oeuvre une fois achevée représente encore 500 kilos.

I chose the basalt of the Monts de Lacaune, close to Saint Sernin. This material is very little used in sculpture, but it expresses the character of the Wild Child, both solid and fragile. Carved out of a column of basalt of 4 tons, the block of stone extracted weighed 1,700 kilos and the work once completed is still 500 kilos.
